SubscribeInterbike '08: TT bikes
On the show floor, TT bikes are just so much more interesting than road bikes, and I'm not just saying that 'cause I have a soft, or dare I say, wet spot for TT's. While much of a road bike's qualities are hidden in it's weave and construction, a TT bike's features are out there in the open.
This year's must have TT bike features:
Behind the stem cable routing
Hidden rear brake (and maybe front brake too)
Dedicated fork faired into downtube
Several makers had these nailed already (Pinarello, Felt, etc.), but this year more and more bikes adopted these features.

Schmalz: All of these bikes look like some sort of Cervelo to me. They all have the back wheel second tri-mester baby bump on the seat tube. Isn't the fact that they all copy Cervelo's design an advertisement that Cervelo is the best bike out there? That's about all the excitement I can generate for these TT things.

- I rubbed this frame in a most salacious manner but could find no signs of the rough speedy paint.

- Slotted seatstays direct air away from the faster moving upper halves of wheels.

- Seat mast, aka the ten most harrowing minutes you'll ever spend with a hacksaw.
- Mike Creed's Fuji TT bike, which he probably won't ride next year, because Rock Racing's so good at keeping equipment sponsors.
- Sure, that's a hidden brake, but isn't that also a big fat trailing edge?
- Head tube boob!
- Seatmast. That's Mike Creed talking to his wife in the background. We'll have an epic interview with Mike up as soon as we're done typing. And typing.
- Possible pronunciations: see-co, chee-co, see-so, chee-so, chee-toh...
- Praying Mantis bike!
- The Liger has quickly become our annual Interbike must-see bike.
- 50% Lion, 50% Tiger, 100% unintentionally hilarious.
- Do you think the Italian subtitled Napoleon Dynamite DVD's been released yet?
- Almost a praying mantis bike.
- A boob!
- Let's paint a Pinarello in our company colors and sit back while the shoe sales come rolling in!
- Fabian Cancellara's Olympic gold winning bike (for now)...
- The Felt DA crossed its t's and dotted its i's a year early.
- Colnago finally produced a proper TT bike, but cred damage already done.
- The Pinarello is no longer WAY more expensive than other TT bikes. Sadly, this is because the others have gone way up.
- Kristin Armstrong's custom painted helmet for the Olympics.
- Look says that kink in the top tube is there purely for aesthetic reasons. I would argue that they've shot themselves in the foot on that one.
- Integrated fork/adjustable stem. The unique headset has needle bearings on top.
- Scott with bent chainstays. Why?
- The stealth Orbea is back, still silly.
- But in colors!
- Bent chainstays here too.

Why do you say "for now"?
The rough paint on the Ridley, like the Dimples on Zipps should be on the LEADING edge (or all over), as it needs to 'trip' the boundary layer.

By comparison to these pics, Cervelo ought to be embarrassed.
the rough paint should go on the trailing edge. the noise induced by dimples helps keep the transition to delaminar flow from being sudden. front edge makes the bow wave. helps to be pointy there.
Honestly, I have NO idea. I think it might be originally a John Cobb idea, worked up in conjunction with Oval a few years back. Cobb does seem credible.

The boob is the guy holding the camera.
The Ridley's just got a lot going on, that's all. It's supposed to have rough paint on some edges to make the airflow stick better, like dimples, probably on the leading edges.
Why do you have the most pics of the Ridley? Was it the dreamiest?
Where are the paint bumps supposed to be?
