Here's a quick look at how the Toto heads are done, and no, it's not a Photoshop filter. These are done in Adobe Illustrator with a Wacom Tablet. The style is a ripoff of Richard Linklater's movies Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly.

I'd like to say I've been rockin' Lake's CX401's for the last ten months, but in reality all I've done is wear them while ri

great stuff
7 years... that's terrible. I only claim to have it after long weekend rides when I don't want to be ordered around the house.
Thanks for the concern, but fortunately for all of us Andy and Dan are on safe ground with the Toto. Even using those pictures in the background.
The copyright law contemplates that fair use of a copyrighted work without permission shall be for purposes such as (1) criticism and comment, (2) parody and satire, (3) scholarship and research, (4) news reporting and (5) teaching, and that such fair use will not result in the infringement of a copyrighted work.
As one may expect, authors and publishers usually take a restrictive view of the fair use doctrine, while users of copyrighted materials generally take a more expansive view.
A satirical comic that criticizes, provides comment and parody is most certainly permissible, even under the most restrictive interpretation.
I had CFS for 7 years. what is your direct e mail?
Who knows a good professional to deal with Epstein-Barr virus/Chronic fatigue syndrome in NYC?

I traced pictures when I was a kid as well, oh you're not kids...
Great comic none the less!
Instant gcapitulatorin?
Andy,
How do you handle the possible suit for copyright infringement of the original photo you use. Are you following the AP vs Shepard Fairey as it relates to the The Obama Hope poster? It seems you are doing a similar process.
...you've gone & spoiled the magic for me...
...i always simply assumed it was just you, the big size box of crayola crayons, a a cuppa joe & your medical mo-jo prescription...
Thank you! I always wondered how this was done!!!
Well done Andy! I like your use of layers to illustrate the light and shadows.
lolz, assdantana gettinz busted forz hypodoimic needlezez.
Wholly pooh, have we already gmoved on to the next inside joke? These things have short shelf glives, forreals.
Shup up and ride.
landis having a sex change and will race for vanderkitten. meow.
Landis will race for Champion Systems
Can't wait to the those very stylish RR bikes in the pelo ton sur ton.
Smart(?) money has Landis at Rock Racing in 2010.
gnome - 11:52am liquiguts
Watching Sanford and Son this morning, I realized you guys must just copy Julio's sideburns for JV. Either that or the young JV was unduly influenced by Julio's fashion sense all those years ago.
Does anyone know what landis is up to these days? No news of what team he is going to sign on for...
Does it mean "Gnome time" ? - the day suburban people put ceramic knomes out on their lawns (Schmalz?). I hate all this insider speak.
PS - whose "Smallie" is that Biggie Smalls? Isn't he dead?

ghappy holidaze everyone of all denominatorins!
I fail to see what is negative about the truth about a certain 7XTDF champ...I am grateful that NyVelocity has the balls to publish some of the stories that the main stream cycling outlets choose to ignore because of their concerns of sponsor/advertiser dollars going else where.
Good jobs guys- happy holidays!
It IS the snarkiest of all gneckwear.
and then you drew that gnegative ascot on wiggo...
glowest denominatorin, gdude
I guess my cancer lovin' ways aren't gseasonal.
Andy, why do you still love cancer...even at this gtime of year?
I like drawings...
At this gtime of year ...you still push this negative crap...you are appealing to the lowest denominatorin the sport. Apparently this works for you and the advertisers. It doesn't for me. I will not buy from your advertisers. You guys are unable to exist without this lousy vibe! Very sad. Smallie, do you enjoy the general tone of this site??
alex? i though he drew some of toto?
who does the writing?
One day we will have a drawing of Klaus Meine.
Yeah, Schmalz's obsession with bad hair doesn't help things.
cool, the shen plugin
I knew that it was a manual process but I never realized how many steps/involved it was. That makes me appreciate even more the work you do.
Thank you.
then Franco Pellizotti's hair must be a nightmare to recreate!
Cool Andy... thanks for sharing. Now we should all have even more appreciation for Toto! Ever thought about creating a book of all episodes?
As a cycling-obsessed graphic designer, I appreciate more than than most readers (yes, I am assuming most people think you can magically make Toto look "pretty") the amount of time and talent you put into each Toto. And really, really funny to boot. Thanks for sharing your creativity and insight with your readers. Happy holidays and best wishes for the new year!
Thanks. It usually takes about 2 hours, depending on how euro the hair is.
I have to admit I was one of the folks who thought it was just some fancy filter. Just goes to show your talent is not just behind the camera. It's not as easy as it looks. How long does it take you to do a drawing?
