Information SOMMERVILLE SPORTS ‑ Mission Statement SOMMERVILLE SPORTS strives to be the premier New York City-based multi-sports management organization. Our mission is to promote the highest level of sporting achievement while helping our members to reach their personal goals. To accomplish this we provide: o Development of youth projects o Mentoring services o Elite level programs o Development programs o Excellence in design o Support o Training o Coaching o Education o Event promotion o Social activities o Supportive environment o Organization o No nonsense management Overview SOMMERVILLE SPORTS is committed to sports competition in the Northeastern United States although we do have an extensive record of international travel. Our members compete in road, track, cyclocross, mountain bike, running and multi-sport events. But there’s more to us than just competition. We also promote events; provide coaching, educational classes and skill clinics; participate in charity events, with advocacy we are giving back to our communities in as many different formats as possible. SOMMERVILLE SPORTS is an amateur program without big budget funding or great recruiting power. Our organization is entirely club run and managed to an exacting standard. Designation SOMMERVILLE SPORTS membership is structured and Designation is determined by the following: o Membership Level (Club, Patron and Dual Team) o Division Selection o Program/Team o Competitive Category Divisions Members are required to select one of the following: Road o Elite Road o Development Road o Masters Road o Junior Mentor Program Track o Elite Track o Development Track o Masters Track o Junior Mentor Program Multi-Sport o Multi-Sport Certain benefits are determined by Division and Designation: o Support* o Clothing* o Equipment* o Contract *New members with Elite, Road or Track, Designation may be provided with fewer benefits, as listed above, until their commitment level is proven. History SOMMERVILLE SPORTS was formed in 2001 and is known as one of the most successful international cycling programs in the United States. The first 7 seasons our sole focus was participation in UCI Cycling events all over the world. The program has taken us to many amazing places, including: o China o Macau o Hong Kong o Malaysia o Pakistan o Spain o Nicaragua o El Salvador o Venezuela o Belize o Canada o Thailand o Dominican Republic We have achieved great success, developed riders to their fullest potential, and gained incredible life experience for our members. During this time period our incredible results have included stage wins, podiums and/or leaders jerseys at: o UCI 2.2 Vuelta El Salvador o UCI 2.2 Tour of South China Seas, o UCI 2.2 Jelajah Tour of Malaysia o Vuelta Nicaragua o Vuelta Zulia Our international crown jewel result: o 3rd overall at UCI 2.2 Tour De Taiwan Current In 2008, our 8th season, we expanded the program to include additional USA-based cycling programs: an elite domestic team, an elite track squad, a development cycling program, as well as a multi-sport group. Using Sommerville’s proven leadership, a no nonsense business approach, and a winning management formula, we have achieved great success on the local, regional, national, and international level. We are going to build on that success in the future. For 2009 we plan further expansion of all current programs with the addition of Junior Mentor, Masters and Development Track programs.
